The town of Fruita is about 26 miles from the Utah state line and provides easy access to National Scenic Byway 128. This drive is a must do! It isn't a fast drive, but there are lots of beautiful stops along the way. We saw a herd of pronghorn antelope grazing, which excited me as I love seeing wildlife in their natural habitats. I saw antelope in Yellowstone, but from a good distance away. Here's a picture:

I recommend setting your odometer to zero when you begin this drive at Cisco, which used to be a town that offered services to the railroad. Once the train was no longer needed, this town became a ghost town. It was used as a filming location in the movie, "Thelma and Louise." Fourteen miles from Cisco is the Historic Dewey Bridge, which was destroyed by fire in 2008. At mile 19.3, you will reach one of the best views of Fisher Towers, Castleton Tower, and The Rectory. There is a trailhead a few miles later, but you can see these formations from the road. Many movies have been filmed here, and Chevrolet even filmed a commercial in 1964 when they placed an Impala on top of Castle Rock. Jon Bon Jovi’s video for “Blaze of Glory” was shot at The Rectory in Castle Valley also. You will pass through Professor Valley and Castle Valley for several miles, and there are multiple trails if you like hiking. At mile 29.8, you will see Red Cliffs Lodge which is home to the Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage. It was getting late in the day, so we did not stop here, but I'd love to see it one day. I understand the museum houses lots of information on the various movies filmed in the area, including posters, scripts, photos, and props. The road ends at Mile 44 at Lions Park, where there is a footbridge that crosses the Colorado River. You will then have to decide whether you are turning toward Moab (left) or toward Arches National Park (right).

Here are a couple of pictures of Fisher Towers:
